i used to dream of burning hands welcoming themselves, unwanted, to the world from my womb (soon to be represented in full-color oil painting at a gallery near you).  and so my dreams from last night began that way, but as the hand crawled, bloody and burning from between my legs, it opened to reveal a tiny soap-bubble.  ever looked in the gleam of the tiny bubbles floating in your dishwater?  they bear the reflection of your own visage, but turned so that the light is what you see more than the figure.  so i stared at the bubble pressed into the palm and it opened wider and wider til the body-less hand was inside it and shrinking and the bubble lay in my palm, gentle and weightless.  and though i couldn't actually see my face in the reflection of the bubble anymore, i was able to glean that the fire in the hand had gone out and the hand had formed a fist held strong.
